Online store for handmade wooden gifts

The client and the brief

Pleter Pokloni make wooden clocks, wood prints, engravings and personalised gifts: from greeting cards and home decor to keepsakes for christenings, first communions, confirmations and weddings. For most of these products half the value lies in the fact that they were made for one specific person, with a name, a message or a photo.

Sales had been running through messages and back-and-forth. That works while orders are few and jams as soon as there are more. They needed an online store that sells ready-made pieces but also takes custom orders, where the buyer supplies the content before anything gets made.

The approach

We built a store with two ways in. The first is a standard purchase: the buyer finds a product, picks a quantity, adds it to the cart and pays by card. The second is a custom order: a five-step questionnaire, starting with the choice of material, after which the workshop sends the buyer a personal quote. Special requests no longer end up in scattered messages, and simple purchases do not wait on anyone.

The catalogue was the second challenge. There are many products and they are very different, so we organised them into nine categories (clocks, prints, gifts, engraving, home, cards, kids’ corner, Christmas and special occasions) and added filters by material and price, plus sorting by newest, price and bestsellers. A quick view opens a product without leaving the list, which saves a lot of tapping on a phone.

Shipping is calculated automatically from the product’s weight and dimensions and shown before payment. Heavy and fragile pieces, such as some granite products, are marked for collection only, so checkout does not offer to ship them.

Technology

The store is built with Next.js and runs on Cloudflare Workers, so it is served close to the buyer with no server of its own for anyone to maintain. Payments are handled by Stripe, which carries the required security certifications and 3D Secure checks, so the store never has to hold sensitive card data itself.

The outcome

The store is live at pleterpokloni.hr. A buyer can find a product by category or material, pay by card and get an immediate confirmation, or order a custom piece through the questionnaire. The shop now runs as an online store instead of a thread of messages, and the workshop spends its time making things rather than retyping orders.
